The Quebec Orthophotos 1:40 000, officially called Orthophotographie noir et blanc 1/40 000, are produced by the Photocartothèque Québécoise. Orthophotos have been prepared from digital aerial photographs that have been analytically altered using elevation data from the 1 :20 000 topographic maps produced by the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources. In addition, they have been geometrically corrected and are georeferenced. The orthophotos can be viewed in imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop, and can be used for cartographic purposes in GIS software such as ArcGIS.
To date, the McGill collection contains over a 1000 orthophotos. The regions covered are: Gatineau, Laurentians, Montéregie, Gaspésie, Schefferville, and the Eastern Townships. The collection also contains orthophotos all the major cities in Quebec.
