In-person class cancellation and work-from-home / Annulation des cours en présentiel et télétravail. McGILL ALERT! Due to freezing rain all in-person classes and activities on Wednesday, March 11, will be cancelled. Staff are asked not to come to campus tomorrow unless they are required on site by their supervisor to perform necessary functions and activities. See your McGill email for more information.

ISS is now located in Brown Bldg., Suite 4100.

ISS is open Mondays to Fridays, 10am - 4pm both in-person and virtually.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for an Open Work Permit if you are:
    1. a full-time McGill student,
    2. you have a valid Study Permit and
    3. you are studying in eligible programs.
  2.  You must be enrolled in an eligible programs for your spouse or common-law partner to qualify for an open work permit.  
    1. ​​​​​​​a master’s degree program that is 16 months or longer;
    2. a doctoral degree program in a university or polytechnic institution, or
    3. one of the following professional degree programs at a university:
      1. Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS, DMD)
      2. Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (LLB, JD, BCL)
      3. Doctor of Medicine (MD)
      4. Doctor of Optometry (OD)
      5. Pharmacy (PharmD, BS, BSc, BPharm)
      6. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
      7. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN, BNSc)
      8. Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.)
      9. Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng., BE, BASc)
  3. Your spouse/partner will not require a job offer to apply, and their permit will be valid for the same period as your study permit. The work permit must be obtained prior to employment.
