The collection of specimens that came under the curatorship of Maude Abbott in 1898 was derived almost entirely from donations by Montreal physicians, most of whom were associated with the Montreal General Hospital.The most notable of these were William Osler, George Adami, John McCrae and Wyatt Johnston, whose names figure prominently on specimen card labels from the period.
