The specimen shows a dilated ascending aorta (circumference 9 cm) with a 6 cm aneurysm projecting posteriorly (seen better on back view (top), short arrows).
Comment
The descriptive card states that the aneurysm had ruptured into the pericardium; although the site of such rupture is not clearly seen, it is possibly covered by a small amount of what may be thrombus (long arrow on back view (A)). The patient is said to have had syphilis. The reference to NO. 183639 on the descriptive card cannot be found.
