Dr. Richard Fraser, Director of the Maude Abbott Medical Museum, provides a brief description of the function and/or use of the equipment.

A myograph is used for recording muscle contraction following electrical stimulation. The first person to make one was Hermann von Helmholtz for the study of frog muscle function (c1850-1860). Our myograph resembles one used by Emil du Bois-Reymond and was based on a model designed by Cambridge Scientific Instruments and manufactured around 1900.
