Early Music; B.Mus. (Minor)

Program Overview

The Minor in Early Music Performance offers an opportunity for B.Mus. students to learn the elements of early music performance practice, and to play an early music instrument or to sing early music.


This minor program is open to B.Mus. students, with the exception of students in the B.Mus. Early Music Performance program. To be considered for admission, you must have completed the B.Mus. Performance 1 exam or the B.Mus. Concentration final exam. Enrollment is limited.


Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) - Minor Early Music Performance (18 Credits)

Audition Material

Note: For 2021 only, applicants will submit a taped video recording instead of doing a live audition.

  • Prepare a short selection of three contrasting works of choice (or sections of long words) composed before 1815.
  • The total duration should be under 15 minutes.
  • Record yourself playing either on a historical instrument if you currently have one, or, if you do not, in historically appropriate styles on your modern instrument.


Application period: December 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021

How to apply:

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Upload taped video recording via the Audition Submission Form.
    Applicants will upload taped video recordings with the Audition Submission Form before February 28, 2021. The accepted media formats are MP4 (recommended), AVI, MOV, or WMV (accepted).

    You will be notified of the results via email by the end of May.
