The Schulich School of Music’s Strategic Plan
Identifying clear pathways to achieving the School’s vision for the future
The Schulich School of Music’s strategic plan, developed through extensive consultation and engagement with faculty, staff, students, the Faculty Advisory Board, and critical friends of the School from December 2018 to December 2019, builds on the School’s strengths and reputation to ensure its continued commitment to excellence and leadership. Aligned with the strategic objectives of McGill University, the School’s plan identifies clear pathways to achieving our vision for the future.
In January 2020, the Schulich School of Music launched a bold and visionary five-year Strategic Plan. The School—distinguished by its exceptional range of excellence in music performance, research, creation and technology and its established status as a leading institution—is perfectly positioned to look to the future with confidence and ambition. Building on the School’s strengths and reputation and aligned with the strategic objectives of McGill University, the Plan identifies clear pathways to achieving our vision for the 21st century and metrics by which to measure our success.
The Plan was developed through a systematic strategic planning process that took place over the course of a year, involving the engagement and commitment of the whole Schulich community—faculty, staff, students, the Faculty Advisory Board, and critical friends of the School. Six working groups with diverse membership reviewed and synthesized the ideas generated through this broad consultation, helping to craft a collective vision for the next five years.
The Schulich School of Music Strategic Plan engages with the challenges presented by the evolving role of music in society in the 21st century and sets a course for purposeful transformation. The five strategic directions are linked thematically through an intentional focus on the wellbeing of all community members. Drawing on the talent, intellect, dedication and creativity of our community, we aim to shape not only our own future, but the future of music itself.
