Locker Policies and Procedures

The following information must be reviewed before registering or requesting a locker. Locker requests that are against these policies will not be accepted and lockers may be reassigned by Student Services Music.

Locker Eligibility

Locker rentals are exclusively for currently registered Schulich School of Music students and faculty. This includes:

  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate students (including PhD students)
  • Faculty (tenured and contract)
  • Music minors

Limitations on locker location are in effect depending on program. These limitations are described in the “Position” section of the Locker Request form.

Locker requests must be submitted annually, including for those that are currently assigned.

A valid McGill email address is required to fill out the form. Other email addresses will not be processed.

Note that there are no fees for locker rentals.

Large Locker Policies

Large lockers will only be assigned to those with a main instrument equal to or larger than a tenor saxophone case, such as:

  • Tenor and baritone saxophones
  • Cello
  • Guitar
  • Percussion (1st floor only)
  • Trombone
  • French horn

All lockers on the 1st floor are solely for percussionists.

You will not be assigned a large locker in the following situations:

  • You have a large instrument for leisure.
  • You have multiple small instruments. Instead, you may request two (2) regular lockers in the Locker Request form. The user must provide locks for both lockers.
  • You share a locker with another person. Sharing a large locker is only allowed if the registered user has a large instrument.

Exceptions can be made if the user requires a large instrument for course work (i.e. ensemble cycle or secondary instrument lessons). To apply, send the following information to lockers.music [at] mcgill.ca:

  • Course code and title
  • Required instrument
  • Duration instrument is required
  • Note of confirmation from course instructor

Approved Forms Procedure

  • All applications take up to five (5) business days to process, pending approval.
  • Incomplete forms or responses against locker policies will not be processed.
  • An email from Student Services Music (lockers.music [at] mcgill.ca) will be sent upon approval with locker code and instructions.
  • The temporary lock affixed to the locker assigned must be returned within seventy-two (72) hours of the approval. Lockers may be reassigned if temporary locks are not returned on time.
  • All users must use a personal lock. Lockers without a lock are considered vacated and may be reassigned by Student Services Music.
  • Lockers are considered registered once a confirmation email has been sent (for renewals) or once the temporary lock has been returned to Student Services Music (for assignments).
  • Lockers must be vacated once the user leaves the Schulich School of Music, for example, upon graduation, transfer, or at the end of contracts.
  • Lockers that have not been approved may have locks and contents removed.
  • Student Services Music reserves the right to reassign lockers based on appropriate needs.

NOTE: McGill University is not responsible for any losses, theft, or damage to personal items.
