Teaching Awards, Honorary Doctorate, Academic and Administrative Awards: Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

As many of our students prepare to graduate, let’s take a moment to appreciate the faculty members, student instructors, and administrators who helped guide them towards this momentous achievement. 

Teaching Awards

Leading to this year’s convocation, we are honoured to recognize several individuals who demonstrated excellence, commitment, and innovation in teaching. They all have immeasurably enriched the lives of our students through their passion, knowledge, and musicianship. Learn more about this year's recipients and join us in celebrating the following recipients of the Schulich School of Music Teaching Awards:

Full-time category: Martha de Francisco, full-time associate professor in the Music Research department and area coordinator in Sound Recording, winner of Schulich's 2023-2024 Teaching Award in the Full-Time Category! Upon her arrival at McGill in 2003, Martha de Francisco has implemented numerous initiatives contributing to Schulich’s excellence and global more!

Part-time category: Anja Burmeisterpart-time professor in the Music Performance department, winner of Schulich's 2023-2024 Teaching Award in the Part-Time Category! Over the years, Anja Burmeister has taught undergraduate courses including MUPG 213 (German Lyric Diction), MUPG 209 (Introduction to Lyric Diction), MUPG 353 (Song repertoire) more!

Graduate Teaching Assistant: Theodora Nestorovagraduate instructor in the Performance & Research Departments, winner of Schulich's 2023-2024 Teaching Award in the Graduate Instructor Category! As emphasized by a former colleague at the University of Texas at San Antonio, “her CV is nothing short of extraordinary.” Theodora is a PhD candidate in Interdisciplinary Studies & Applied Performance Sciences working to bridge the gap between research and more!

Honorary Doctorate

Louis Lortie, an internationally acclaimed pianist, has made significant contributions to the music industry with his masterful interpretations and extensive repertoire. Renowned for his versatility and technical prowess, Lortie has performed with major orchestras and in prestigious concert halls worldwide, earning accolades for his performances of Chopin, Beethoven, and Liszt. His prolific recording career includes award-winning albums that have enriched classical music archives and inspired audiences globally. This year, he receives an honorary doctorate from the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. Lortie's dedication to excellence and his impact on the world of classical music are rightfully celebrated!

Administrative and Academic Awards

We would also like to celebrate Fredericka Petit-Homme and Adelina Lamieras in recognition of their commitment and contribution to students and the community as academic and administrative staff members at the Schulich School of Music.

Fredericka Petit-Homme, recipient of McGill University’s 2023-2024 Equity and Community Building Award in the Academic Staff category, has been instrumental in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all. Adelina Lamieras, honored with the 2023 Dean of Students Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising in the Administrative Staff category, has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication to guiding and supporting our students in their academic journeys. One nominator shared: "Adelina has been a key resource and support for undergraduate students, staff and faculty for the last 10 years – she is an exceptional individual who embodies dedication and hard work.”

Their contributions are invaluable to the McGill community.
