Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning Opportunities at Desautels

Here at Desautels, you can find many ways to take advantage of hands-on learning! Experiential Learning is a chance for you to solve real problems and work with industry and community stakeholders. You will get to experience firsthand what working in different industries would be like, all while completing your coursework.

Starting Fall 2024, all incoming BCom students must complete a 3-credit Experiential Learning (EL) course to graduate. The courses listed in the repository are the only courses that will fulfill this degree requirement, so be sure to refer to the repository.

Some courses will be courses included in your program of study (i.e. major) while other students may choose to, or be required to, take additional electives credits outside their program to fulfill the requirement. Plan ahead and have several options in the event that courses fill up quickly.

Important notes:

  • The course cannot be taken using the S-U option.
  • Exchange terms do not fulfill this requirement.
  • Courses taken at universities other than McGill do NOT meet this requirement, even if the course code is listed on the repository.
  • No substitutions or special requests to count courses that are not on the repository will be accepted.
  • The repository is subject to change from year to year so ensure that you check the repository for the current AND past years to ensure you meet the requirement.

Be sure to refer to the repository as your definitive source of information about what does and does not fulfill the EL degree requirement. You will see that your EL requirement is still pending or met in myProgress. If you have additional questions, please consult an academic advisor.
