Desautels alumna honoured by the Association des femmes en finance du Québec
Desautels alumna and vice president of RBC RH&N Kathy Fazel (BCom’91) has received the Inspiration-Andrée-Corriveau Award from the Association des femmes en finance du Québec.
Fazel, whose finance career spans 25 years, credits her early career mentors with ensuring she never felt disadvantaged as a woman in a field still dominated by men. She is now inspired to give back through causes close to her heart.

Entering the job market during the COVID pandemic
The graduating class of 2020 is facing an uphill battle as they prepare their move into a job market shaken by COVID-19. Despite this, Desautels graduating student Yuliya Novosad (BCom’20) is staying positive and devising her game plan, with support options available from the Desautels Soutar Career Centre and McGill’s Career Planning Service (CAPS).

Welcoming a new cohort of GCPA students
The first week of May marks the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 48 students. Joining the cohort are 37 graduates from McGill University’s very own Bachelor of Commerce graduates, seven Concordia graduates, and four from other Canadian universities. The cohort is comprised of 25 female students and 23 male students.

BCom alumnus named CEO and president of Maya
Maya Gold & Silver Inc. has appointed Benoit La Salle (BCom’76) as its new CEO and president, effective immediately. La Salle brings to the role more than 25 years of experience as a corporate executive of mining companies, most recently as the founder and executive chairman of SRGGraphite Inc.

Two McGill finance students receive CFA scholarship
Investment leader CFA Montréal has awarded two scholarships to Desautels students Rakan Lamy (BCom’20) and Xinyan Wang (MMF’20) for their high academic achievement and engagement in the investment community.
The scholarship, awarded to a total of six students based in Montreal, is given to finance students who have their sights set on becoming CFA charterholders.
