A Killam Institution

The Neuro is proud to be a Killam Institution, supported by the Killam Trusts. In 1966, the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Endowment Fund and Fund for Advanced Studies were established at the Montreal Neurological Institute through the bequest of Dorothy Johnston Killam. These funds support the academic and training mission of the Institute, and are invaluable to advancing our work in neuroscience.

Funding for the Killam Trusts came from eminent Canadian financier Izaak Walton Killam (1855-1955) and his wife Dorothy Johnston Killam (1900-1965). The fund is now valued at nearly $500 million. Since 1965, the Killam Trusts have supported upwards of 7000 fellowships and scholarships, and awarded more than 150 Killam Prizes, which are among Canada's most prestigious awards for lifetime achievement in Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities. The other Killam institutions are Dalhousie University, the University of Alberta, the University of British Columbia, the University of Calgary and the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Neuro bestows the prestigious title of Killam professor to three faculty members (two currently named):
