    Health and Wellness Resources for Musicians:wooden figure

    Somatic Education (inspired by Feldenkrais): Helps to reduce tension and effort, overcome and prevent performance-related injuries, and bring relief from aches and pains. Enhanced coordination and increased quality of movement and attention. Each lesson addresses a different function (sitting, standing, use of the arms, breathing, etc), Wear comfortable clothing. Sessions take place in Room A833, free for Schulich School of Music registered students. See the schedule here

    Alexander Technique Lessons: Can help with improving posture and technique while playing to prevent overuse injuries. Private lessons are available for Schulich School of Music registered students. Up to 6 lessons of 30 minutes, per student, per year are available at rate of $10 paid by the student. Application for the subsidy can be found here. Once approved, you will be connected with the instructor to make arrangements for the date and time of your lesson.

    Therapy Assisted Online (TAO)

    Starting December 31, 2023, students can access TAO through Wellness Together Canada. Students are also encouraged to seek support through Keep.meSAFE, a mental health counselling service providing 24/7 access to licensed counsellors in 60+ languages through telephone and mobile chat via the MY SSP app.

    Keep Me Safe

    • A free service provided by your student union, available 24/7
    • Keep.meSAFE's helpline (1.844.451.9700) can connect you with trained professionals directly, and offers support for issues of any kind, including relationships, family care, depression, anxiety, addictions, stress, work conflicts, and much more.
    • To access the service, download the Telus Health Student Support app for Apple iOS or Android. You can learn more about it on the SSMU website (ssmu.ca) or PGSS website (pgss.mcgill.ca)

    OSVRSE

    • Services available by phone or virtually for McGill members, whether in Montreal, across Canada or abroad. To request assistance and inquire about adapted services, you can contact OSVRSE by email (osvrse [at] mcgill.ca) or by phone at 514-398-3954. Please allow for a 24hr response time during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm)

    Peer Support

    Peer Support Centre

    • The Peer Support Centre is currently offering online services Monday - Friday from 11 am - 5 pm. Appointments must be scheduled at least 2 hours or up to 1 day in advance. Book your appointment on the Peer Support Centre website.
    • Appointments are a maximum of 45 minutes, during which you can discuss and explore anything that is going on in your life in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Sessions are confidential.

    SACOMMS

    • An organization run by volunteers, many of whom are students. If you’re a survivor of sexual violence, they’re here to listen or connect you with other support systems.
