Program overview

This brand new, one-of-a kind program is designed for high-level pianists who specialize in collaborating and working with singers. Under the co-direction of Michael McMahon (Schulich School of Music of McGill University) and Francis Perron (Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal), and with pierre.andre.doucet [at] umontreal.ca (subject: UdeM-McGill%20Piano-Vocal%20Arts%20Residency%20inquiry) (Pierre-André Doucet) as coordinator of the program, six outstanding pianists will immerse themselves in art song and operatic repertoire, developing their skill as collaborative pianists and vocal coaches.

  • This 9-month intensive program runs from September - May.

Generous financial support

Made possible by an extraordinary philanthropic commitment, all candidates accepted to the program will receive both a full scholarship and a living stipend.

Two exceptional musical institutions

Unique in its kind, the McGill-UdeM Piano-Vocal Arts Residency offers students the possibility to study simultaneously at two exceptional musical institutions: the Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal, and the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. Both are located in the city of Montreal and will soon be connected by a new transit system (Réseau Express Métropolitain).

To cover a broad range of specializations, styles, and repertoire, the McGill-UdeM Piano-Vocal Arts Residency provides students with opportunities to work under the guidance of major international artists and experts including:

  • Vocal artists
  • Pianists and accompanists
  • Conductors
  • Lyric diction coaches
  • Specialists in literary interpretation and historical performance

Professional development

Within the context of the program, financial support is offered to each resident pianist so that they may carry out a career development project (attending an approved, internationally-recognized workshop, academy or internship program, producing a concert, recording or tour in relation with the program, etc.).
