On October 20, 2025, the Desautels Faculty of Management was honoured to welcome Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, to McGill University’s downtown campus. The visit marked a milestone in McGill’s growing collaboration with Luxembourg, celebrating the launch of the McGill Centre for Finance in Luxembourg and the introduction of the part-time Master of Management in Finance (MMF) programme in Europe.
Minister Roth met with McGill University President Deep Saini, Provost Christopher Manfredi, Desautels Dean Yolande E. Chan, Vice-President of University Advancement Marc Weinstein, and Professor Patrick Augustin, Director of the McGill Luxembourg Centre for Finance and the MMF Luxembourg programme. They were joined by His Excellency Jean-Claude Kugener, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Canada.

The Minister was accompanied by a delegation from Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance and representatives of the country’s financial sector. Together, the group discussed McGill’s expanding partnership with Luxembourg and their shared commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation in global finance.
Following the meeting, Minister Roth delivered a keynote address titled “Finance that builds: Europe’s competitiveness, resilience, and your generation” to students, faculty, and members of the broader McGill and business communities. The event, moderated by Professor Patrick Augustin, featured a dynamic Q&A session, exploring evolving financial landscapes, Europe’s global competitiveness, and the role of the next generation in shaping resilient economies.

The McGill Luxembourg Centre for Finance will serve as a hub for finance education, applied research, and collaboration with industry and government partners, reinforcing McGill Desautels’ mission to prepare future leaders for an interconnected global economy.
“This partnership between McGill and Luxembourg is a model for what global academic collaboration can achieve—education that is locally grounded, globally connected, and purpose-driven,” said Dean Yolande E. Chan. “It reflects our shared vision to invest in innovation, talent, and the development of responsible leaders who will shape the financial systems of tomorrow.”
The part-time MMF programme in Luxembourg builds on McGill’s world-ranked finance expertise and close collaboration with Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance, the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI), and the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL). Delivered at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, the programme integrates academic excellence with experiential learning, including hands-on management of Desautels Capital Management’s socially responsible investment fund, and is designed to prepare professionals for leadership in global finance.
Applications are now open for the inaugural MMF Luxembourg cohort. For more information, visit our website or explore our programme video.
