McGill Desautels Accounting Ethics Case Competition

McGill Desautels Business Ethics Case Competition

The Laidley Centre for Business Ethics and Equity is pleased to announce its 2024 Business Ethics Case Competition. The topic for this year’s competition falls at the intersection of business ethics and sustainability and the case will be based on a real issue facing a Canadian company. The competition will be held at McGill University on March 22, 2024. On March 21, the participating teams will be welcomed with an evening panel discussion and networking reception.

The main objectives of the competition are:

  1. To increase students’ awareness of the importance of ethical decisions in business with an emphasis on sustainability.

  2. To expose students to real-world scenarios that they may encounter in their future careers.

  3. Provide students with the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking and presentation skills related to business ethics and sustainability.

Eligibility

The McGill Desautels Business Ethics Case Competition is open to current upper-level undergraduate students in good standing registered in the business program at North American Universities. For the competition, a current upper-level undergraduate student is defined as one who is enrolled in the final two years of their program in the current academic year. Each team should consist of four current, upper-level, undergraduate students. This case will encompass multiple disciplines in management. Therefore, we strongly encourage each team to be comprised of students from multiple business majors.

Registration Details

There is a $500 registration fee for each team.

This registration fee provides for refreshments at the Thursday evening pre-case reception, as well as breakfast and lunch during the case on Friday. Teams will be responsible for all transportation costs to and from Montreal, local accommodation in Montreal, and all meals apart from those provided from the registration fee. McGill University has negotiated rates with a range of hotels in the area, which will be shared with registered teams.

Universities interested in participating in the event must complete the Expression of Interest Form by December 5, 2023. Our selection committee will choose the teams invited to the 2024 competition and send out invitations. If selected, your team must submit the $500 registration fee by December 15, 2023.
