Recapping the Inaugural MMF New York Trip

In November 2018, students enrolled in the Masters of Management in Finance (MMF) program travelled to New York City to witness firsthand how today’s financial sector operates in a booming metropolis.

Over the span of two days and thanks to McGill’s extensive alumni network, students met with 12 distinct financial organizations that operate across a variety of areas, such as asset management, real estate, risk management, and private equity.

Universities heed call for socially responsible investing

As universities are increasingly turning toward socially responsible investment (SRI), an article cites the new SRI fund under Desautels Capital Management (DCM) as an “inspiring example.”

Through the SRI fund, students working as analysts at DCM will be able to factor environmental, social, and governance issues into their investment decision-making process.

The Desautels community has come together for an amazing achievement. 

Thanks to incredible donor support, Desautels has a new home for our Masters programs - and extra space for our BCom students. 

Donors also created 34 new MBA awards for the #1 MBA Program in Canada and named more than 140 MBA Lockers.

The evening of May 1 was a special one for the second cohort of MMF students who celebrated the completion of their coursework and upcoming convocation.

The students marked their achievements at Hotel Nelligan in the company of professors, staff, and alumni who each contributed to the program throughout the year.

Mr. Lindley guest lectured with the Masters of Management in Finance students. He gave the students and in-depth analysis of strategic asset allocation and in particular his firm’s tactical asset allocation approach. He also discussed his firms approach to risk management and portfolio construction.

The Armstrong Building as a new frontier for Desautels

In January 2018, the Donald E. Armstrong Building, the new home for Desautels’ MBA and Masters programs, opened officially for classes.

Just under two months since its inauguration, The McGill Reporter delves into the benefits that this expansion has brought for all in the Faculty.

For example, in line with student feedback, the new building brings additional spaces for group work and quiet study areas, which will surely enhance learning.

Learning from experts: A recap of MMF guest lectures

Weekly guest lectures are an important component of the Desautels Masters of Management in Finance program. This past year included presentations from industry leaders in a diversity of fields, such as asset management, investment banking, venture capitalism and pension funds.

With guests from cities like Toronto, Paris, New York, and Boston, students have been able to not only broaden their knowledge, but also their network.

Armstrong Building opens to students

Our new MBA & Masters building is named for Professor Donald E. Armstrong, PhD’54 (1925-2011).

The 48,666 sq. ft. expansion by EKM brings new dedicated teaching and learning spaces that benefit all in the Faculty.

While the building is open for students as of January 2018, the grand opening is slated for May 25-27.

McGill launches first-ever competition on pension asset allocation

McGill hosted the world’s first business-school competition focused on the asset allocation of pension funds on November 3–4.

The inaugural McGill International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC) welcomed 25 finalist student teams from leading institutions around the world, with some traveling from as far away as Australia, Hong Kong and Switzerland to pitch their proposals to a panel of judges from several of Canada’s largest asset managers.
