Teaching-Related Activities    
EDI related activities added to several classes (see details). Ongoing For instance, sessions in MEI, EDI Conference with three panelests/EDI experts for students across several classes. Half-day visit by EMBA class to Kahnawa:ke in March with the TRC calls to action in mind for business. EDI session held in EMBA Sustainability Module with speaker Sema Burney. Various EDI sessions held in Tatiana Lamoureux Gauvin's Cross-Cultural Management class including "How to be an Ally & an Advocate," by Amber Cabral with the MBA group, the "Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Conference," and "Indigenous Representation," by Krystal Abotossaway, also with the MBA group.
Other Events & Activities for Students  
Creating a master's student recruiting plan targeted at increasing representation of underrepresented groups (URGs). Ongoing New student recruiting plan for master's programs currently in implementation phase.
Creation of a Women in Business page (part of the master's student recruiting plan) Ongoing New page which focuses on women's issues; has a focus on Desautels' committment to EDI, career resources and networking opportunities.
Developed guidelines for on-campus recruiters. Ongoing Guidelines developed by the Industry Advisory Board, and are currently being rolled out.
EDI case writing competition January-March Three teams of Bcom and Master's students participated in an EDI case writing competion led by Tatiana Gauvin.
MBA Lecture Series Most recent edition held in January Prof. Patricia Hewlin and Jay Hewlin discussed key factors which hinder organizations from implementing EDI strategies.
Held EDI events organized by students for students including conferences and workshops (see full list in details column). Ongoing Desautels African Business Initiative Conference during Black History Month; for ex. panel "Career Opportunities Within the Diaspora" on February 4, 2022.
Participating in Faculty initiative to examine BCom selection and create pathways for underrepresented groups (URGs). Ongoing Committee created as part of the overall BCom redesign process to examine what we can do in our BCom selection to ensure admission of more members of URGs.
Drafting report for BCom Curriculum Review Task Force on implementation strategies and outcomes for pathway initiatives for underrepresented groups (URGs) at other faculties, universities and business schools. In process; to be submitted by end of April 2022. BCom admissions review working group is exploring the idea of introducing "pathways" for URGs but continuing to search for further information on outcomes and implementation.
Call for proposals to address Anti-Black Racism (ABR) Applications received in March; projects ongoing. Created a call for proposals for small grants related to ABR. Received 5 applications and are working with the applicants to revise proposals and assist in implementation.
MDIIM Fellowship Applications received in March; names of students the EDI team would work with submitted to Alexandra Samra on April 8. Following successful completion of the program by our first MDIIM fellow, the EDI team is accepting students for the purpose of working on EDI related projects/research. Applicants have been through an interview process, and students selected for the Fellowship to be notified in the coming months.
Member of the PhD Project to support PhD students from URGs. Ongoing The PhD project is an organization that helps members of URGs who are pursuing a PhD. It is a member sponsored organization offering workshops, job boards, etc. to aid in these efforts.
Collaboration with Soutar Career Management about accessing and developing subsidized internships for Indigenous and International students. Ongoing In discussions to collaborate on the development of subsidized internships for Indigenous and International students. Further discussion and research to be completed before moving forward with the support of Career Management.
Ongoing collaboration with Branches Programs (see details). Ongoing Two workshops organized by Joy Bennett for the Branches Explore McGill program. Professors Hollister and Dhir created workshops for prospective high school and cegep students from URGs. Prof. Dongyoung Lee requested a summer intern form the IMPRESS Program, designed to encourage Indigenous students to explore academic research; partnered with IMPRESS to identify participants and mentors as well as to amplify social media posts. Alumni guests O'Nell Agossa and Torie Williams took part in Pick Yor Path initiative, an online learning experience for Indigenous summer students between the ages of 16-25.
Indigenous Alumni Meeting - EMBA Ongoing EMBA administration met with Indigenous alumni to assess student experience and discuss strategies for recruitment; future meetings to be held at a date to be determined.
Research and Knowledge    
Provided "thought leadership" on EDI related issues by publishing and/or commenting in mass media, social media and podcasts. Ongoing For instance, Kai Zhu on Wikipedia information inequality on Delve; Karl Moore on Indigenous leadership in Forbes; Patricia Hewlin on supplier diversity.

Held Desautels-specific training session on EDI in research. January Presented by Uzma Jamil from the University's Equity team to 14 faculty members.
Laurent Picard Distinguished Lecture on EDI topic. March Prof. Iris Bohnet of Harvard's Kennedy School gave Laurent Picard Distinguished Lecture on Women & Equality.
Dobson Lean Women Startup Ongoing McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship unveiled program dedicated to women entrepreneurs to launch in Fall of 2022.
Outreach    
Presentation on University EDI efforts at Faculty Council. Completed Angela Campbell presented on University context of current EDI efforts.
Creating Working Group on Indigeneity. Ongoing Associate Director, EDI, Karrie-Noelle Plohman has begun reaching out to previously identified members of the group and is outreaching for additional members, with a meeting to be called in May.
Created Industry EDI Advisory Group. Ongoing Third meeting of this group held in Feburary with plans to continue the group going forward.
Created EDI at Desautels social media strategy to be implemented. Implemented Created a strategy to better communicate EDI efforts at the faculty to our community via our social media channels, including sharing EDI events and articles, with special campaigns for Black History Month and International Women's Day.
Consultations on EDI strategy. January/February Presented in January/February to Executive Committee, Faculty Advisory Board, Faculty Council, Bcomm General Assembly, Working Group, Industry Advisors, PhD students; Master's student leadership plans in place to present to additional student groups.
Black History Month Event: Bringing Yourself into the Workplace February Session on authenticy in the workplace moderated by an alum (Lysie Solomon) and featuring Patria Hewlin and three alums (Audrea Golding (BA’92), Partner at Fragomen, Martin Laguerre (BCom’95), Executive Vice-President and Head of Private Equity and Capital Solutions at the Caisse de dépôt et de placement du Québec, and Bertrand Cesvet (MBA’90), former Chairman and Senior Partner at Sid Lee).
