La Caisse stays diversified amid AI-fuelled market gains

Published: 18 August 2026

Despite strong stock market gains driven by artificial intelligence, La Caisse is maintaining a diversified investment strategy to protect the long-term retirement savings of millions of Quebecers.

Sebastien Betermier, associate professor of finance at McGill Desautels, explains that its portfolio combines public equities with infrastructure, real estate and private assets to withstand changing market cycles.

While one asset class will inevitably outperform others at any given time, predicting market movements remains difficult. Betermier also notes that recent stock returns are unusually concentrated among a small group of technology companies, making greater exposure potentially risky despite current enthusiasm surrounding AI.
