Marvin Duchow Music Library

Temporary remote access to Music software

Music students, faculty, and staff can now connect remotely to some of the Library's PC workstations with specialized Music software!

Finale, Sibelius, Transcribe! and Dorico are available for remote access on certain machines.

The service is available through McGill IT's AnyDesk Service. Off-campus users must be connected to the McGill VPN to access the site, and only one user may be signed into a given computer at a time. Note that certain functions of the programs might respond more slowly when used remotely.

Once connected to the service, look for the two main map listings for Music software access: New Music Building Lab - Student and New Music Building Public Areas.

  • New Music Building Lab - Student provides access to Finale, Sibelius, and Transcribe! on 5 PC desktops.
    • On 034-245-A513-05, it is also possible to access Dorico notation software (for instructions on enabling audio playback, consult the “Dorico audio settings” text file on the desktop).
  • New Music Building Public Areas provides access to Finale, Sibelius, and Transcribe! on the following 6 computers: 034-245-FLR4-55, 034-245-FLR4-56, 034-245-FLR4-57, 034-245-FLR4-58, 034-245-FLR4-59, 034-245-FLR4-60

For general information about the remote access service, please see the McGill Library announcement.

Free trial versions of paid software products might be useful as well. Note, though, that free trial versions are often time-limited or have restrictions related to program capacity (e.g. disabled saving/printing, limits on channel/project numbers).
