Info session

Learn more about the Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) program at our upcoming information session.

What you need to apply to McGill MMA:

1. Undergraduate Degree and Academic Qualifications

You must list on your application each university-level institution you have attended to-date and upload a complete record of study for each. Transcripts must include all courses and grades for each year attended. We also require transcripts for any courses taken at other university-level institutions, such as transfer credits, exchanges, or unfinished degrees. McGill transcripts do not need to be uploaded.

For those institutions from which a degree has been obtained, but the year is not stated on the transcript, we require a copy of the actual diploma to be uploaded in addition to the transcripts.

Transcripts in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by a certified English or French translation.

Only applicants admitted to the program will be required to provide an official transcript from each school attended. All admitted students will receive further mailing instructions on where to send these documents.

2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

The CV should include the following:

  • Educational record in reverse chronological order. Indicate dates of attendance and degrees earned.
  • If your educational background does not demonstrate any quantitative skills, we ask that you highlight your relevant course work (quantitative and technology courses), competencies, and include a short student or professional summary.
  • Employment history, if any, in reverse chronological order. Indicate your title, dates of employment, and whether you worked part-time or full-time, or as an intern.

We welcome and encourage submission of any other relevant information. The CV should be no longer than one page.

3. Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

All applicants – except those with a graduate or undergraduate degree from any Canadian or US university – must complete the GMAT or GRE. No exceptions or waivers will be granted.

When registering for a test, request that the results be sent directly to McGill University:

  • GMAT Institution Code: 58H-MN-80
  • GRE Institution Code: 0935

4. English Language Proficiency

For candidates whose mother tongue is not English and who have not completed a degree in an English-speaking country, the TOEFL or IELTS is required. Only tests taken at Test Centers are accepted for admission, at-home tests are not accepted.

For those who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at a recognized institution where English is the language of instruction, but not in an English-speaking country, you are exempt from taking a proficiency test. To determine other cases in which you may be exempt, please review the McGill English Language Proficiency requirements

When registering for a test, request that the results be sent electronically to McGill University by the testing service:

  • TOEFL Institution Code: 0935
  • For IELTS, via the IELTS Results Service.
    Name: McGill University
    Address: 688 Sherbrooke St. W, Suite 760. Montreal QC, H3A 0B8 Canada

Students cannot upload their results themselves, nor can administration upload paper copies of their results.

5. Personal Statement

Please complete the following questions on separate pages and upload as one PDF document.

  • Explain why you intend to pursue your master’s in analytics studies at this time (maximum 500 words).
  • Explain how the Desautels Master of Management in Analytics program will help you achieve your professional goals (maximum 500 words).

6. Two Letters of Reference

On the application form, you must provide the names and institutional email addresses of two referees who can evaluate your abilities. Once your application has been submitted, McGill will contact these referees directly and ask them to upload their references.

Your referees should be individuals who have been directly responsible for evaluating your performance and potential. They may be professional or academic, but you should include at least one academic reference letter. You may send this recommendation form to referees for completion, or the referees may choose to write their own recommendation letters.

Note: Referees must submit their references by the application deadline. Consult information on how referees can upload their references.

7. Application Fee

A non-refundable Graduate Studies application fee of CAD $129.03 must accompany each application. Applications cannot be submitted without this fee. This sum must be paid by credit card.
