Welcoming a new cohort of GCPA students
The first week of May marks the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 48 students. Joining the cohort are 37 graduates from McGill University’s very own Bachelor of Commerce graduates, seven Concordia graduates, and four from other Canadian universities. The cohort is comprised of 25 female students and 23 male students.

Silvana Travaglini (BCom’88; GCPA'89) is set to take over as Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of pressure-treated wood provider Stella-Jones Inc. With a proven record of driving strategic change, Travaglini will manage Stella-Jones’s financial operations and provide leadership in business planning, budgeting, accounting, and investor relations.

McGill alumnus Aaron Akerman (BCom’91; GCPA'93) has been appointed as the next Chief Financial Officer of Immersion Corporation, a leading developer of touch feedback technology based in California. The first week of May saw the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 54 students. An additional 60 students also returned to the program in further preparation for the Common Final Exam, which they will write in September 2019.
GCPA participants score top marks on CFE
Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting (GCPA) participants Liane Brick (BCom’17) and Michael Richardson have placed on the National Honour Roll for their results on the Common Final Examination (CFE), with Richardson earning a gold medal for placing 1st among the six Quebec students who made the list.
This marks the second consecutive year that a GCPA student wins the gold medal for Quebec.
C. Douglas Mellor Prize for academic excellence awarded to GCPA student
Michael Richardson (GCPA'18), student of the Graduate Certificate in the Professional Accounting (GCPA) program, has been selected among his graduating class as this year’s recipient of the C. Douglas Mellor Prize for academic excellence.
2018 Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship recipients
On June 12, the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting (GCPA) program awarded the Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship to the following students: Sorana Gyorgy, Eleni Panaritis, Michael Richardson and Ghassen Sabri.
In the memory of Lionel Pelham Kent, CA, this scholarship was established in 1998 to recognize academic excellence and strong communication skills among students entering the final year of the GCPA program.
