Entrepreneurial courses for those who could use them the most
At McGill University, a new generation of entrepreneurs is sprouting up across campus, supported by the business school.
Starting this month, students from five faculties (arts, science, engineering, music, and agriculture and environmental sciences) can pursue minors in entrepreneurship, with finance, accounting, marketing and other business fundamentals taught by professors from the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Entrepalooza
This year, hundreds of eager entrepreneurs competed to win $200,000 in funding, and for the opportunity to pitch their ideas to experienced investors and mentors. The participants also met legendary and inspirational startup celebrities from companies such as Reddit, Shopify and Oculus.

As week 2 of the McGill X-1 Accelerator comes to an end, we’re happy to see our 6 teams — Appetite, Fractal, FRSH, NXTSENS Microsystems, UGo Smoothies, and Venndor — swiftly settling into their space.
Day by day, the walls and windows are increasingly covered with sticky notes of all colours shapes and sizes, every writable surface is covered with notes, and each desk has someone calling it home — for the next 8 weeks at least.
McGill X-1 Kick-off! | Weekly Recap Series
The week ended with a workshop on how to maintain your engagement with your startup and the right mindset to adopt, led by Prof. Nii Addy of the Desautels Faculty of Management here at McGill. Following this was Prof. Lisa Cohen, another outstanding professor at Desautels, who shared her expertise on building a great team and understanding team dynamics.
Dobson Cup runneth over
After a year of planning, over 150 start-up submissions, 137 pitches, and $117,000 in prizes, the 2016 McGill Dobson Cup has come to a close with four enthusiastic startups claiming a first place victory in four different tracks: Social Enterprise, Health Sciences, Small & Medium Enterprise, and Innovation Driven Enterprise.

Bigger is better for McGill Innovation Week
McGill Innovation Week took place for a third year in a row this November and the third time was certainly a charm. Nineteen events integrated the McGill student and faculty community with the Montreal innovation community to demonstrate how people can collaborate to create novel ideas that will drive our future.

Social Entrepreneurship Workshop: Designing your career, your enterprise, and your impact
On November 13, 2015, the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM) and the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship co-sponsored a half-day workshop on social entrepreneurship. Entitled “Social Entrepreneurship: Designing your career, your enterprise, and your impact”, the event featured a broad range of attendees – from those new to the concept of entrepreneurship to established entrepreneurs.
High tech tailor offers suit shopping convenience with curb-side fittings
It's a Friday afternoon and mergers and acquisitions lawyer Giancarlo Salvo squeezes in a break at the Dentons law firm to get measured for a suit and dress shirts. He heads down to the lobby of Montreal's Place Ville Marie and steps into the Tailor2Go van parked out front where tailor Nathan Kong is waiting.
