Desautels BCom Students Win 2016 PRMIA Risk Management Challenge

Published: 18 March 2016

A Desautels BCom student team defeated 116 undergraduate and graduate teams from 45 schools around the world to place 1st at the 2016 PRMIA Risk Management Challenge.

The PRMIA (Professional Risk Managers’ International Association) challenge is the premier case competition on risk management in the world. The team, composed of Simon Altman, Evan Coulter, and Valentyn Litvin, had won the Montreal PRMIA Risk Management challenge back in January by analyzing a case study on FX Risk Hedging at EADS. Their win allowed them to move on to the international finals held in Chicago on March 11, where the eight regional finalists analyzed the major trading loss at JP Morgan in 2012 and the risk management practices at the bank. The 1st place finish came with a $10,000 award.

The Desautels team was recruited and coached by Finance Professor Sebastien Betermier and were also guided by Professors Laurent Barras and Patrick Augustin for the final round.
