The parties met on May 28, 2014 and the university proposed an implementation strategy for a new technical support role which could be introduced in the bargaining unit. The university provided the union with details about the context, additional responsibilities and required qualifying skills for this role.
The university also explained how employees could propose their candidacy for this role and how the selection would be made. Some discussion also took place with respect to how this role would be compensated financially. The discussion progressed with both parties identifying points they have in common. The university will write a proposed letter of agreement which will be submitted for further discussion at the next meeting on June 12.
The 4 bargaining units involved in these negotiations are employees from trades and from powerhouse downtown, and employees from trades and from powerhouse Macdonald campus, represented by SEU, local 800 (Service Employees Union, local section 800, affiliated with the Quebec Labour Federation).
