Greetings Neuro Family et bonjour tout le monde!
Let us introduce ourselves: we are Phillip and Adrien, Co-chairs of The Neuro's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.
2020 has not been only about the pandemic. The Black Lives Matter movement shook the world and drew attention to racial discrimination.
Many voiced their desire for change, from people in the streets of New York to our own trainees and staff, here, at The Neuro.
Countries, public and private organizations, and small and large teams of dedicated workers, have all come to realize that that the situation is still far from ideal, and there is so much that could be improved.
The Neuro's EDI Committee started from a simple observation: “The Neuro family,” that is all of us, at all levels of our institution, should represent the community we serve, that is 50% women* and 34%* people identifying themselves as visible minorities in Montreal.
We are a grassroots committee made up of a diverse membership representing different parts of The Neuro, including:
- Sienna Drake, PhD Student
- Heidi McBride, Professor
- Siva Moonsamy, Nurse Manager, ICU/PACU/RA
- Annabel Seyller, Chief of Staff
- Madeline Sharp, Neurologist and Assistant Professor
- Nathan Spreng, Associate Professor
- Aparna Suvrathan, ECI, RI-MUHC
- Sandra Reiter-Campeau, Neurology Resident
- Blake Richards, Assistant Professor
- Amanda Rodrigues, Nurse Manager, In-Patient Admissions
We are still looking for a postdoc to join our committee!
Over the last several months, we’ve had committee meetings as well as meetings with individuals specializing in EDI, with Dr. Guy Rouleau, and others. We have received support from executive committees, and we thank them for that.
Our mission is for everyone working at The Neuro -- including all MUHC and McGill employees and trainees -- to feel accepted, safe, and given equal opportunities.
Our goal is to create open discussion and positive change at The Neuro in a timely manner.
We will provide a forum for regular consultation, feedback, discussion, and reporting.
We will develop an Action Plan to promote an inclusive and accessible environment for all.
We will operate in a fully transparent manner.
We want to hear from you!
Reach out to us, in English, mais bien sur aussi en français.
All conversations are confidential.

We look forward to hearing from you and representing our community.
Regards,
Adrien Peyrache, Assistant Professor, and
