Birgit obtained her MD degree from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, in 2014. After that, she was research assistant to Dr Ronit Pressler on a project studying neonatal EEG at the UCL Institute of Child Health, London. In October 2015 Birgit commenced PhD studies at the UCL Institute of Child Health working on a project entitled “High-resolution cortical mapping for epilepsy surgery in children” under the supervision of Prof Torsten Baldeweg.
In April 2016, Birgit joined the Montreal Neurological Institute for a four month project focusing on high-frequency oscillations and seizure onset zone in intracranial EEG recordings. Her work is supported by a “Bogue Research Fellowship”.
