Proud to have founded the Management Cancer Auction

Richard Simon | BCom Class of 1977

My thoughts go back to 1976 when, as a junior in the Faculty of Management at McGill, I helped launch the very first Management Cancer Auction. I had the pleasure and thrill of being the auctioneer at the event, which was held as part of the McGill Carnival Week. What fun watching excited students bid against each other and sometimes, themselves!

In 1977, I was elected president of the Management Undergraduate Society where I helped plan the second annual auction.

After graduation, I continued to return to McGill for several years to auction donated products and services. Management students worked hard to grow the event, finding interesting things to add to the auction roster.

My understanding is that the Cancer Auction continues to this day and I'm proud to have been involved in its founding.

Now, almost 45 years later, I call Bermuda home where, as an entrepreneur, I have six small businesses. My daughter carries on the McGill tradition being active in extracurricular activities and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2021.
