From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to McGill students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

McGill Libraries Borrowing Card for alumni

  • McGill alumni must register for a McGill Libraries Borrowing Card in order to borrow items from the Libraries. Your McGill alumni username (generally firstname.lastname [at] mail.mcgill.ca) and password are required in order to register. If you do not have an alumni username and password, register with the McGill Alumni Online Community.
  • Cost for alumni: free
  • McGill Libraries Borrowing Cards are valid in all McGill libraries, subject to the borrowing policies of individual collections.
  • A McGill Libraries Borrowing Card may only be used by the person to whom it is issued.
  • The McGill Libraries Borrowing Card is valid for 12 months; the expiration date is calculated from the date of registration.
  • Fines or other sanctions are imposed for late returns and cards may be cancelled if misused.

Note: Registering for a McGill Libraries Borrowing Card does not provide remote access to the Library’s electronic resources outside of those available to all alumni, nor does it give you access to all library services and resources.

To register for a McGill Libraries Borrowing Card:

  1. Complete the application for the McGill Libraries Borrowing Card.
  2. Visit any Information Desk at any library except the Rare Books & Special Collections Library or the McGill University Archives.
    • Bring a photo ID & proof of address.

Once your application has been processed, you will be provided with a McGill Libraries Borrowing Card that you can use to borrow items.

To renew a McGill Libraries Borrowing Card:

The McGill Libraries Borrowing Card may be renewed by email, by phone, or in person at any library except the Rare Books & Special Collections Library or the McGill University Archives.
