Stephen is U.S. leader for Marsh’s Political Risk and Structured Credit practice.
He joined Marsh in April 2009, following eight years with AIG in New York, where he was East Coast Manager and Senior Underwriter in the US for AIG Global Trade and Political Risk (now “Chartis”).
Stephen’s career began at Export Development Canada (EDC), the counterpart of US EX-IM Bank and OPIC. It was there that he “cut his teeth” on specialized products including export credit, export financing and foreign direct investment insurance. After EDC he was a corporate relationship manager at Royal Bank of Canada for two years before moving to the U.S. in 1994.
At that time he joined Citicorp International Trade Indemnity, an affiliate of Citibank. At CITI Stephen was VP & Head of Underwriting for political risk, where for the next 7 years he underwrote insurance for Citicorp and third parties’ political risks arising from trade and direct investment, as well as structured and project finance activity in emerging markets.
Stephen has a Diplôme d’études collégiales in Liberal Arts from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, as well as a BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance and International Business, both from McGill University in Montréal, Canada.
He is fluent in French, loves playing squash and guitar and lives in northern New Jersey with his wife and 3 children.
