VHS/VCRs phased out of McGill classrooms

News

Published: 11 Nov 2011

Support for VHS technology is being phased out of McGill classrooms because VCRs are no longer being manufactured. When a VCR breaks it will no longer be fixed or replaced and new installations will not include VCRs. In larger classrooms a Blu-ray device will be installed.

As an alternative, visit the McGill Library where you'll find an extensive collection of downloadable media:

  • McGill Overdrive –  eBooks, audiobooks, videos and more. Once on the Overdrive site, click on “Getting Started” to gain access.
  • Films on Demand - Thousands of high quality educational videos that can be integrated into lectures and presentations. To access resources, McGill users need only to create an account using their McGill ID and password.
  • Audio:  streaming and indexes -  listing of audio and video streaming resources and indexes.
  • National Film Board (nfb.ca) - access all National Film Board of Canada films (access restricted to McGill users).

To find out what equipment is installed in your classroom, go to Classroom Audiovisual Support Services.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ICS Service Desk at support [dot] ist [at] mcgill [dot] ca or 514-398-3398.
