Jamil Ahram, Manager

Jamil manages the daily operations of the Faculty of Engineering metalworking and woodworking machine shops, develops & grows the team and drives improvements while ensuring customer satisfaction. This includes the responsibility for coordinating all activities of the workshop staff: the supervision and training of students and staff shop users, project scheduling, maintaining shop cost budgets, purchasing, shop machine tool maintenance and repair. Jamil maintains and organizes the system of work orders, ensures the update of the list of machine inventory across the various locations of the workshop. He develops and updates the working and safety procedures to be in line with McGill rules and regulations while working to ensure a safe working environment in the workshop in cooperation with EHS department.

Meisam Aghajani, Technician

Meisam is one of the Engineering technician team, he provides design and machining services in support of research lab and projects, he participates in delivering the Mechanical Engineering courses which give Mechanical students instruction on hand tools and machines. Having a strong and diversified technical knowledge, Meisam is an asset in providing researchers with technical support to meet their needs; he is also highly qualified to take on machining work orders in support of research labs and projects.

Mathieu Beauchesne, Technicien

Mathieu is part of the technician team delivering the Mechanical Department's Machine Tool Laboratory course which gives Mechanical students instruction on hand tools and machines. Mathieu provides supervision and support to Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students in their project courses. He is also highly qualified to take on machining work orders in support of research labs and projects.

Lydia Dyda, Technician

Lydia is one of the most recent additions to the Engineering technician team, she provides design and machining services in support of research lab and projects, she participates in delivering the Mechanical Engineering courses which give Mechanical students instruction on hand tools and machines. Having previously studied pure and applied science, she maintains a keen interest in scientific research. She is always willing to listen to students and professors about their work and tries to apply scientific knowledge to machining techniques to meet their needs. She is also highly qualified to take on machining work orders in support of research labs and projects

Ramnarine Harihar (Harry), Chief Shop Technician

Ramnarine (Harry) is a technical member of the Faculty of Engineering Workshop. His role is to guide and support researchers and students in their projects, which require traditional machining skills and innovative techniques for machining advanced materials.

Ramnarine compiled an extensive experience while working with leading-edge mechanical design and manufacturing companies using the industry’s latest equipment and technology.He is a specialist in Advanced Programming in CNC technology and CADCAM with a wide experience with Tool & Dies, Aircraft, Automobile and other machining fields.He also acquired a license in auto tech.

Ramnarine brings hands-on training experience in CNC and looks forward to collaborating with students and researchers to optimize the value gained from the workshop services

Derek James Hodges, Shop Technician

Derek is a technical member of the Faculty of Engineering Workshop. He provides design and machining services in support of research activities mainly for the Chemical Engineering and Mining and Materials Engineering departments. His machining and welding skills will add an extra value to the workshop offered services. He is highly qualified to take on machining work orders in support of research labs and projects. Additionally, he ensures the functional and safe operation of all the equipment in that workshop.

Andy Hofmann, Technician

Andy is part of the technician team delivering the Mechanical Department's Machine Tool Laboratory course which gives Mechanical students instruction on conventional and CNC machining. Andy specializes in lathe equipment instruction. He also provides ongoing design support to undergrad students in their project courses such as Mechanical Engineering Project (or Capstone). He is also highly qualified to take on design and machining work orders for research projects.

Sam Minter, Workshop Coordinator

Sam is a workshop coordinator at the Wong Machine Shop and is part of the technician team delivering the Mechanical Department's Machine Tool Laboratory course which gives Mechanical students instruction on conventional and CNC machining. Sam is a fine toolmaker specialized in CNC technology and CADCAM programming software.

He provides ongoing design and CNC programming support to design teams and undergrad students during their project courses such as the Mechanical Engineering Project (or Capstone). Sam is highly qualified to take on design and machining work orders in support of research labs and projects.

David Speller, Chief Technician

David coordinates and operates the activities of the School of Architecture Workshop providing supervision and technical support to Architecture undergraduate and graduate students as they produce course work. He also ensures the functional operation of all the equipment in that workshop.

Roberto Tariello, Chief Technician

Roberto is part of the technician team delivering the Mechanical Dept's Machine Tool Laboratory course which gives Mechanical students instruction on conventional and CNC machining. He specializes in delivering instruction on milling machines. Roberto also provides design and machining services in support of research lab and projects, mainly for the Chemical Engineering, Mining and Materials Engineering departments. Additionally, Roberto received specialized training on welding technology, and is available to provide his services and instruction on this equipment, as needed.
