Symposium: Celebrating Voltaire/ Célébrer Voltaire, March 9, 2016

Voltaire was a celebrity and a figure of controversy in the 18th century. Famous for his wit and his advocacy of civil liberties, he remains the subject of much debate and discussion in the 21st century.
On March 9, 2016, the McGill University Library and Archives welcomed a group of local and international scholars for a one-day symposium “Celebrating Voltaire”.

The accompanying exhibition, Celebrating Voltaire, took place in the McLennan Library lobby from February 15 to May 15, 2016.
Intellectuel phare des Lumières françaises, Voltaire polarisait les opinions au XVIIIe siècle. Célèbre par son esprit et sa lutte pour les libertés civiles, il reste l’objet de multiples débats et discussions au XIXe siècle.
Le 9 mars, 2016, La Bibliothèque et les Archives de McGill a accueilli un groupe de savants canadiens et internationaux pour un symposium d’une journée en l’honneur de Voltaire.
Le symposium a compris des sessions en anglais et en français. Le programme est ci-dessous.
