The Faculty of Law is currently accepting invigilation applications for Winter 2023 Final Exams April 14 to 28, 2023.

The Fall Final Exams at the Faculty of Law are scheduled April  14 to April 28, 2023 (inclusive). All exams are held on weekdays and start at 9:30 or 14:30. The latest an exam may finish in the morning shift is 13:00, and 18:00 for an afternoon shift; this is determined by the length of the examination. Invigilators must arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the official examination start time: punctuality is crucial.

Invigilators ensure proper conditions exist for the writing of examinations and assist in the distribution and collection of all examination materials. Invigilators give instructions to students and handle problems. Therefore, they must have very good language skills in either English or French. We reserve the right to verify the accuracy of the application and to request an interview.

Hours of work and pay scale

Exams in the Faculty of Law may run a minimum of 1 hour in length to a maximum of up to 3 1/2 hours. Invigilators start work 1/2 hour before the official starting time of the exam and finish 1/2 hours after. The minimum examination shift is equivalent to the length of the exam plus one hour, to a maximum of 4 ½ hours. The exact length of the exam may only be available on the day of the examination. Invigilators are paid a minimum of 3 hours and up to a maximum 4 1/2 hours.

The hourly rate of pay is $14.25 plus 4% vacation indemnity paid with each pay cheque (a. 18.01 CA) based on the AGSEM Collective Agreement for McGill invigilators. All hired invigilators must complete an AGSEM membership form and return to the SAO prior to starting invigilation. You will find this form in the Invigilator Collective agreement, Appendix 2, which was signed on May 1, 2015 by AGSEM.

Having a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a condition of employment.  If you are an international student, you must have a valid immigration document allowing you to be employed by McGill University.

If you are an international student with a Study Permit, please send a scanned copy of your permit to sao.law [at] mcgill.ca, with INVIGILATION in the subject line. We cannot hire international students who do not have a Study Permit.

*Students enrolled in the BCL/JD or LLM program are not eligible.
