New Search Functionality in McGill’s Web Management System
The search functionality on McGill websites has been improved. Previously, you would have to first choose whether you wanted to search the local site or expand your search to include all McGill sites. Now you can enter your search term once at the top of the web page, and you will be presented with a single page with two tabs : one containing matches within the local site and a “McGill” tab containing matches found within all McGill sites.
On the local results tab, you will notice a Refine By Tags column in the right sidebar; this allows you to filter your search results based on the tags associated with the content. The ability to filter by tags is currently not available for the global results, but it may be implemented at some point in the future.
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving search results and reliability we have implemented some configuration changes that increase the "relevancy" of pages that are most frequently sought. This means the pages you are most likely to want are pushed to the top of the search results list.
We will be continuously monitoring search performance and making further enhancements regularly.
