Rahyma Raid Abdo

My name is Rahyma, and I am an MSc student in Structural Engineering. I am deeply committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and I aim to leverage my lived experiences, both in industry and academia, to support and empower my peers to flourish within their engineering departments at McGill. Outside of academics, I’m obsessed with coffee and have a growing (and slightly unreasonable) collection of memorabilia.

Karimata Barry (she/her)

Hello! My name is Karimata Barry, and I'm entering my second year in the Architecture program. I grew up on the South Shore of Montreal, where I’ve developed a love for community, creativity, and design. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, and listening to music, especially while driving around my neighborhood. I'm deeply passionate about promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the fields of engineering and architecture, and I'm committed to helping create spaces that reflect and serve all communities. I’m so excited to join E-IDEA this summer!

Karen Nguewou (she/her)

My name is Karen, a Chemical Engineering student excited to participate in E-IDEA and to work on initiatives to make our Faculty of Engineering more inclusive and more accessible. I will work on representation and creating a database of scientists from underrepresented communities/minorities over the summer and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to see there is someone like them that paved the way for other people to evolve in the STEM environment.

Johanna Turton (she/her)

Hi! My name is Johanna Turton, and I’m a fourth-year Bioengineering student here at McGill. I’m a proud Maritimer with a passion for advocacy, especially through the lens of engineering. Outside of my studies, I love hockey (go Leafs) and connecting with people. I’m excited to use the platform that E-IDEA offers to make a positive impact in my community.

Bethany Wakelin

Hi! I'm Bethany, a Master of Architecture student at McGill with a background in Environmental Design, Architectural Technology, and Fashion Design. I’m deeply curious about how material, memory, and identity shape our built environments, especially through the lens of Black and Caribbean culture. My work often explores how performance, ritual, and cultural expression can inform architectural storytelling. I’m passionate about creating spaces that reflect underrepresented narratives and spark meaningful connection. Outside of design, I love sewing, paddle boarding, and asking big questions about how we move through the world.
