Troubleshoot Registration Issues

Acceptance of Admission Offer

You will not be able to register for any courses in the program until you have accepted your offer of admission.

Registration Period

Registration can only take place during the designated period at the start of each term. Consult the table above for registration dates.

If you are registering for a course in which you are waiting for the final grade of a pre-requisite course, you should register under the assumption that you have passed the pre-requisite course.

Account Holds

You may be unable to register (or access student records) due to a hold that has been placed on your account.

"It Takes All of Us" Hold

To clear this hold, you must complete It Takes All of Us: Creating a Campus Community Free of Sexual Violence, a mandatory online learning program that strives to ensure that our campus culture is based on respect and consent.

  1. Sign in to myCourses with your McGill credentials
  2. Select "View All Courses" and search "It Takes All of Us"
  3. Complete the five modules (takes about 1 hour)
  4. Once you pass, you will receive an email confirmation
  5. Wait 1-3 business days for the hold to be removed before you can register

"Tuition & Fees" Hold

This hold usually means you have an outstanding balance in your student account. Find out how to pay fees from inside or outside Canada.

To view your balance:

  1. Log in to Minerva
  2. Go to the Student Menu tab
  3. Select Student Accounts Menu > View Account Summary by Term

Inactive Student Status

If you have not been active in your program (i.e., have not registered for and completed a course) for three or more consecutive terms, your status will change to "inactive."

If you were admitted to a program and your status is now "inactive," you will be required to re-apply to the program.

Prerequisite or Test Score Error

If you receive this error, you may not have met your prerequisites/corequisites or language proficiency. If you have verified that you have met the requirements, please contact us for assistance.
