Every year at Spring Convocation, the McGill School of Continuing Studies (SCS) honours one or more of its instructors with an Award for Distinguished Teaching. SCS presented its first Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1993. Our goal was, and remains, to recognize teachers who embody the highest attributes of the teaching profession.

For this award, the School wishes to honour teachers who

  • are engaged and engaging in the classroom, putting learners at the centre of their teaching practice
  • embody the utmost in professionalism
  •  experts in their field

2026 Recipient: Cheryl Marie Conroy

The 2026 SCS Distinguished Teaching Award was presented to Cheryl Marie Conroy, Course Lecturer in the Global and Strategic Communication domain, where she has taught English for Professional Communications since 1998.

By exploring the intersection of language, sound systems, and musical structure, Cheryl empowers her students with the tools to build confidence and communicate effectively in professional settings. Our learners consistently describe Cheryl as inspiring, supportive, and deeply committed, praising her thoughtful feedback and her ability to create a positive learning environment.

Congratulations, Cheryl, and thank you for the lasting impact you continue to make in our learning community!
