Taking Credit Courses as a Special Student
If you would like to register for credit courses at the School of Continuing Studies without being admitted to a program, you may register as a special student.
How to Enroll
Getting started is simple:
- Email us at enrolment.scs [at] mcgill.ca.
- Our team will:
- Share the list of available courses
- Guide you through the next steps
- Help you enroll for the next available term
Eligibility Requirements
Undergraduate-level courses
- Proof of English language proficiency
Graduate-level courses
- Proof of English language proficiency
- Undergraduate degree transcript with proof of graduation
- Minimum academic standing:
- CGPA of 3.0/4.0, or
- 3.2/4.0 in the last two years of full-time academic studies
English Language courses
- Beginner to advanced level courses are available through our Certificate of Proficiency in English for Professional Communication.
- All students must take a Placement Test first to determine their level.
Application Deadline
Applications for special students for Fall 2026 are open until August 25, 2026.
Note that the term starts on August 31, 2026; therefore, we strongly suggest that you apply as soon as possible to allow the necessary time for processing your application and to avoid late registration for courses. For more details on the important dates for Fall 2026, please go here.
