The global economy and climate interact to create a complex system. As we establish businesses and societies to enhance Earth’s sustainability, systemic issues such as poverty, resource consumption, chronic disease, and climate change share some traits: they are slow to fix, are interconnected, and impact everyone. This interactive session will illustrate how system dynamics modelling uses simulations to help policymakers improve the performance of systems like industries, ecosystems, or the Earth.
AI Can Build the Project Plan, Can You Lead It?

While AI supports project planning, analysis, reporting, and documentation, successful projects still heavily rely on people to build trust, navigate uncertainty, influence stakeholders, manage resistance, and lead teams. Some problems are like clocks: take them apart, you can predict how they'll behave. Others are like clouds: shifting, unpredictable, never fully knowable. Most policy work treats every problem as a clock — a habit that causes real harm once human beings are involved. Drawing on his OCPM public consultation work, his transport strategy background, and his systems thinking teaching at SCS, Marc looks at how to tell a clock from a cloud and why it matters for policy.
