SCS Faculty Advancement Board

The School of Continuing Studies Faculty Advancement Board (FAB) is a dedicated team of volunteers who provide valuable advice to the Dean on aligning with the mission, vision, and values of the McGill School of Continuing Studies (SCS).

The FAB's primary role is to assist SCS in crafting and implementing advancement strategies. These strategies aim to enhance the School's presence and impact within the broader community, including sectors like business and law.

The Board comprises diverse alums and supporters from various backgrounds, regions, and professional spheres. Members of the FAB bring their unique skills, expansive networks, and esteemed reputations to the table, generously volunteering their time. Their collective efforts ensure that SCS effectively connects with its diverse community, including learners, employers, government entities, donors, volunteers, and alums.

Members' Responsibilities


Aligned with the McGill School of Continuing Studies' commitment to empower learners, strengthen communities and support partner organizations; The Faculty Advancement Board is tasked with the following key responsibilities:

  • Act as principal advocate for the School and the University, promoting their mission and objectives into the broader community.
  • Champion the School’s interests in business and government and engage with relevant professional bodies and societal sectors.
  • Offer guidance and support in executing the School’s strategic plans and key priorities.
  • Aid in devising strategies to address the financial demands of the School’s strategic fundraising priorities.
  • Play an active role in fundraising efforts by engaging in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and fostering connections with potential individual and corporate donors.
  • Enhance alum involvement and participation in various activities and initiatives.

Sean Murphy — Chair

Sean Murphy is a real estate broker for the Remax Action Group as well as an independent communications and public relations specialist. While a student at McGill he served both as the President of McGill Association of Continuing Education Students (MACES) and as a member of the McGill University’s Board of Governors for one term.

Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Government from Concordia University, along with a Graduate Diploma in Communications and Public Relations Management and Graduate Certificate in Leadership from McGill University.

Mary Larson, ICD.d, is a Partner with MNP, Inc.’s Consulting Services group in Montreal. Mary has worked with high profile clients internationally has held senior executive positions in some of the worlds most recognized and renowned organizations with a focus on strategy, culture, and environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG).

Ms. Larson holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA, Honors) from Princeton and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She also graduated of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.d) at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Sandra Albers is a philanthropist, business owner, founder, and former principal of École Montessori Internationale Montréal. Sandra dedicates her time and energy to raising her family and contributing to philanthropic endeavors related to education and community, such as the St. Sauveur Melkite Catholic Cathedral in Montreal.

Originally from Quebec, Sandra spent her formative years abroad, primarily in Saudi Arabia, until she returned to Canada. Sandra Albers, together with her husband, Joseph Chaloub, have supported learners at Polytechnique Montreal, Concordia University, and the McGill University School of Continuing Studies.

 


 

Vincent Bacani — Member

Vince Bacani is a self-employed asset and risk manager of private asset portfolios. His technical career began in Canada’s pulp and paper industry: R&D, process engineering, and manufacturing. He would later branch out to pursue a career in finance, assuming Financial Engineering and Market Risk roles for RBC Capital Markets and Scotia Capital.

Vince holds a Bachelor and master's in chemical engineering (Honours, NSERC Scholar) from McGill University and a master's in business administration (MBA) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

 

 


 

Nabil Beitinjaneh — Member

Nabil Beitinjaneh is a Faculty Lecturer in Technology and Innovation and serves as Academic Program Coordinator of data science programs at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies. He has more than 20 years of experience in business and strategy development, project and change management, and systems and engineering, all spanning both the corporate and the entrepreneurial world.

Mr. Beitinjaneh holds an Executive MBA from Concordia University and a degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill university. He is passionate in leadership, strategy and organizational development, which can be exemplified by his dedication to the Centre Culturel Syrien as President.

 

 


 

Rod Louisa, C. Mgr. — Member

Bell Canada, Senior Manager

Rod Louisa is an IT Senior Manager for Bell Canada. As a student at McGill University, Rod was actively involved in the McGill Association of Continuing Education Students (MACES), serving as both Vice President and President. He also represented MACES on the McGill University’s Board of Governors.

Rod graduated from St. Petersburg College (Florida/USA) with two bachelor’s degrees in applied science, one specializing in International Business and the other Technology Management. He also holds Graduate Diplomas in both Entrepreneurship and Management, and Graduate Certificates in Leadership and International Business from McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies.

 


 

Barbara Seal — Member

Retired Citizenship Judge
FAB member since 2012

Barbara Seal is a retired Citizenship Judge who has served her communities extensively through numerous roles such as Hampstead City Councillor, Vice President for the Canada Day Celebrations for Québec, and Québec President for the Canada Poster Challenge. Now, she sits on numerous boards such as Conseil des Arts du Canada, Place des Arts, National Arts Centre, Governors of Tel Aviv University and the Senegal Centre for Performing Arts.

Mrs. Seal has received a multitude of honours, distinctions, medals, and awards, such as the Jerusalem 3000 medal, Canadian Parks and Recreation Award, the Canadian Cancer Society Award and the Grande Dame of Montreal. She has also been chosen to be the recipient of the Governor General’s Special Edition Plaque and has received an Honorary Doctorate and the Order of Canada.

 


 

Anthony Wait — Member

Anthony (Tony) Wait represents the McGill Community for Lifelong Learning (MCLL) on the McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies Faculty Advancement Board. He has been involved with MCLL for over 12 years, and currently holding the role of Interim head of Development. He is passionate about promoting and leading an active and healthy lifestyle both personally and in the communities that he contributes to, and has a keen interest in history, the arts, and current affairs.

Mr. Wait holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science and a Diploma in Management from McGill, and a Master of Arts in History from Cambridge University.
