Biography: 

Effie Dracopoulos has been engaged in academia at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies for the last thirty years. During this time, she has served as Course Lecturer, Faculty Lecturer, Academic Program Coordinator, Associate Director, and Interim Director of the Language & Intercultural Communication (LIC) unit. She has also served as Senior Academic Partnerships Advisor in Faculty Partnerships and Summer Studies (FPSS), and as Program Lead and Academic Program Coordinator for STEM programs in the Adaptive and Integrated Learning (AIL) domain, the Indigenous Relations Initiative (IRI), and more recently in the Technology & Innovation domain (T&I). She is currently with Global and Strategic Communication where she teaches Experiential Service Learning and Intercultural Communication through Civic Engagement and Service Learning, and with Professional and Corporate Education, where she provides academic support for short programs, special initiatives, and summer studies. As part of her mandate, Effie is also responsible for the advancement of international student mobility as well as the continued nurturing and growth of existing international partnerships and the development of new partnerships and collaborations.

Throughout the years, Effie has overseen the design, development and delivery of over a dozen programs under her purview, including the award-winning McGill Certificate of Proficiency - English for Professional Communication and the Professional Development Certificates in English for Healthcare, English for Social Services, and English for Frontline Healthcare Administration  delivered to over 10,000 healthcare professionals across Québec through the "Anglais Santé" project. She has developed specialized ESL teacher training/support programs, such as the Certificate in TESOL and Skills Upgrade for Teachers, for both off and on campus delivery to university professors in/from Mexico, and in collaboration with local school boards, to elementary and secondary school teachers from South Korea, China, and Saudi Arabia. She has also created study abroad programs that include Internship and Service Learning components, such as Semester@McGill, for international students. 

Her academic interests and professional experience include the conception, design and development of academic, professional, and specific-purposes courses and programs, including on and off-campus customized programs for institutional partners and government agencies; academic quality assurance; e-learning/distance learning; experiential learning, including service learning and internships. Student-centered and service-oriented, she aims to continually provide the best learning experience to SCS students and the best collaboration experience to SCS’ local, regional and international partners.
