uPrint service upgrade and price increase coming on May 3

The uPrint service will be unavailable due to an upgrade lasting approximately 9 hours, starting on Friday, May 3 at 9pm and ending on Saturday, May 4 at 6am. Any print jobs submitted before the service shut down will stay in the queue for a period of 48 hours and will be available for printing once the system is back up. Users should not notice any difference in the uPrint service after the upgrade, it impacts back-end functionality and paves the way for future service improvements.

Once the upgrade is complete, the price of black & white print and copy jobs for students, faculty and staff using the uPrint service will increase from $0.06 to $0.063 per page. For guest and walk-in users, the price of black & white print and copy jobs will increase from $0.10 to $0.105 per page. This increase in pricing is required in order to cover the rise in operational costs since the introduction of uPrint. A portion will also be used to help us introduce enhancements to the service, such as working towards a mobile print solution. Even with the fee hike, McGill is still offering the lowest pricing for printing and copying amongst large universities across Canada.

The cost for colour jobs will remain at its current price of $0.20 per page and scanning will continue to be offered free of charge to all users.
