Celebrating the 2025 Friends of the Libraries Student Award winners

On Monday, April 28, students, library staff, and Friends of the McGill Libraries members gathered together in celebration of the inaugural Friends of the Libraries Student Library Award winners.

The awards were established to promote the use of library services and information resources in undergraduate projects. They were presented to undergraduate students who best demonstrated their use of library services and resources in the creation of a research project, lab report, critically appraised topic, creative work or other coursework and who demonstrated an excellent understanding of the connection between their research and these library services and resources.

The awards were presented to four undergraduate students, two from Humanities, Social Sciences, Music, Law, and Management disciplines and two from the Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

The Libraries and Friends are delighted to announce that the recipients of the 2025 awards were:

• Sara-Alba Gonzalez Pepe, U2, Ingram School of Nursing; Project Title: What you Need to Know about AUVELITY.
• Michael Yu, U2, Department of Geography; Project Title: WXImpactBench: A Disruptive Weather Impact Understanding Benchmark for Evaluating Large Language Models.
• Céleste Pepin, U4, Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies; Project Title:  White Women at War: Understanding the Role of White Womanhood in Canada’s Military Occupation of Iraq.
• Julia Couture, U1, Langue et littérature françaises; Project Title: Quand le lecteur devient captif du récit : La forme cyclique de Petites Cendres ou la capture comme métaphore de l’invasion de la souffrance.

The jury was incredibly impressed by the many amazing submissions. We thank all our applicants and congratulate this year’s recipients.

Célébrons les lauréats des Prix bibliothèques pour les étudiants 2025 des Amis des Bibliothèques

Le lundi 28 avril, les étudiants et le personnel des bibliothèques ainsi que les membres de l’association des Amis des Bibliothèques de McGill se sont rassemblés pour célébrer la remise des tout premiers Prix bibliothèques pour les étudiants.

L’objectif de ces prix est de promouvoir l’utilisation par les étudiantes et étudiants de premier cycle des services et des ressources de nos bibliothèques dans leurs travaux. Ces prix sont remis à celles et ceux qui démontrent le plus habilement comment ils ont profité de nos services et de nos ressources dans la préparation de leur projet de recherche, rapport de laboratoire, article soumis à une évaluation critique, œuvre originale ou autre travail universitaire et qui font la preuve de leur compréhension juste du lien entre la recherche et les bibliothèques.

Les prix ont été attribués à quatre étudiants de premier cycle, soit deux dans les domaines des sciences humaines, sciences sociales, musique, droit et gestion, et deux dans ceux des sciences physiques, sciences de la vie, génie, agriculture et sciences de l’environnement.

Les Amis des Bibliothèques sont ravis d’annoncer que les lauréats des prix 2025 sont :

• Sara-Alba Gonzalez Pepe, U2, École de sciences infirmières Ingram; titre du projet : What you Need to Know about AUVELITY.
• Michael Yu, U2, Département de géographie; titre du projet : WXImpactBench: A Disruptive Weather Impact Understanding Benchmark for Evaluating Large Language Models.
• Céleste Pepin, U4, Études sur le genre, la sexualité, le féminisme et la justice sociale; titre du projet :  White Women at War: Understanding the Role of White Womanhood in Canada’s Military Occupation of Iraq.
• Julia Couture, U1, Langue et littérature françaises; titre du projet : Quand le lecteur devient captif du récit : La forme cyclique de Petites Cendres ou la capture comme métaphore de l’invasion de la souffrance.

Le jury a été incroyablement impressionné par la qualité des nombreuses candidatures. Nous remercions tous nos candidats et félicitons les lauréats de cette année.
