Research Assistant 1 - Community Engagement Facilitator
As a Community Engagement Facilitator, Barry collaborates with students, staff, and faculty to encourage interconnection and foster stronger community relationships in the Faculty of Engineering and beyond. He also assesses and shares summaries on the latest developments in community-based research and equitable and inclusive community engagement. His role with the E-IDEA team is preceded by years of experience in project-based watershed science and environmental management, where he has employed interpersonal and technical skills to help implement conservation, community engagement, and capacity building strategies over a broad range of environmental and community applications. Barry holds a graduate certificate in Integrated Watershed Management and a B.Geg. (Hons) in Physical Geography and Environmental Studies (Fr/En).

Hi! I’m Ishita—an ever-curious explorer, both in science (PhD Year 2) and in life. Being an army brat shaped my adaptability and appreciation for diverse perspectives. I thrive on change, love discovering new places, and believe that meaningful conversations—whether over coffee or across cultures—broaden our understanding of the world. Beyond research, I’m passionate about fostering inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and heard. To me, EDI isn’t just about representation; it’s about creating environments where different experiences, backgrounds, and voices come together to drive innovation and change.

Aditya Nemana (he/him/il)

Hello! My name is Aditya, and I am a PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering. My aspiration is to become a professor, fostering safe and inclusive learning environments for students. I firmly believe that equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) practices should be standard in engineering classes and design as they will contribute to creating a more just society. To that extent, I am working on building learning modules for graduate students to help them better understand the positive impacts of EDI in engineering design. When I’m not immersed in my 68th midlife crisis of the day or annoying my friends with bad jokes, I find solace in reading and indulging in movies and anime. And yes, my love for animals might just lead me to pet the wrong one someday!
