Your academic standing indicates how well you are doing in your program, whether you can continue to the next term and if there are any conditions attached to your registration.
Each student's academic standing is assessed at the end of every term on the basis of a review of the final grades received in courses registered in prior terms. A student who fails to comply with the minimum standards set out by SCS will not be permitted to continue in a program and risks their registration being cancelled.
Original grades remain on record even if improved by course repetition or supplemental exam.
Minimum Requirements
Certificate of Language Proficiency (English, French) Programs
- A minimum grade of B- (65%) is required for all courses.
- A student is permitted a maximum of two (2) unsatisfactory grades (grade below B- (65%)) per course/level.
- A student with three (3), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
- To graduate, a CGPA of at least 2.0 is required.
Certificate Programs (other than language proficiency)
- A minimum grade of C (55%) required for all courses.
Exception:- A minimum grade of B- (65%) is required for CMSC 000.
- A grade of D (50%) is allowed in one (1) complementary course if it's not a prerequisite to other courses to be taken in the program.
- A student is permitted a maximum of two (2) unsatisfactory grades (in this context, an unsatisfactory grade is an “F,” “J,” or “D” in required courses, and an “F” or “J” (or more than one “D”) in complementary courses).
- A student with three (3), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
- To graduate, a CGPA of at least 2.0 is required.
Graduate Diploma (Legal Translation) Programs
- A minimum grade of B- (65%) is required for all courses.
- A student is permitted a maximum of one (1) unsatisfactory grade (in this context, an unsatisfactory grade is a grade below B- (65%)).
- A student with two (2), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
Special Students (Graduate)
- A student is permitted a maximum of one (1) unsatisfactory grade (in this context, an unsatisfactory grade is a grade below B- (65%)).
- A student with two (2), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
Special Students (Undergraduate)
- Minimum grade of C (55%) is required for all courses.
- A student is permitted to repeat a course once.
- A student is permitted a maximum of two (2) grades below C (55%).
- A student with three (3), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
- A student with a CGPA below 2.0, will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
15-credit Graduate Certificates Programs
- A minimum grade of B- (65%) is required for all courses.
- A student is permitted a maximum of one (1) unsatisfactory grade (in this context, an unsatisfactory grade is a grade below B- (65%)).
- A student with two (2), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
30-credit Graduate Certificate or Diploma Programs
- A minimum grade of B- (65%) is required for all courses.
- A student is permitted a maximum of two (2) unsatisfactory grades (in this context, an unsatisfactory grade is a grade below B- (65%)).
- A student with three (3), or more, unsatisfactory grades will no longer be permitted to register for any course offered at SCS.
Course Load Reduction
A student would be permitted, if the schedule allows it, to register for a full load in the first term.
- If a student then has one failure, the course load will be reduced to three courses in the subsequent terms.
- If a student has two failures, the course load would be reduced to two in the subsequent terms.
Appeals
The School of Continuing Studies affirms the right of students to dispute substantive or procedural academic matters, including decisions about the student’s continuation in a program; or concerning any other decision with respect to the application of academic regulations and requirements to a student.
A formal academic appeal must be made in writing directly to the School of Continuing Studies Appeal Committee. This request must be accompanied by supporting documents which substantiate reinstatement.
