McGill University celebrated the launch of their new school year with a five-course tomato-inspired meal. The meal, which included a 500-pound tomato cake, was made from vegetables grown on McGill’s farm on Macdonald Campus in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.
In addition to the giant cake, dozens of volunteers came together to prepare more than 500 liters of tomato salsa, 500 pounds of gazpacho, 2,500 pounds of Greek salad, tomato pizza and pasta with tomato sauce. The event is kicking off the academic year by celebrating the full tomato and vegetable harvest on campus, calling itself a celebration of community engagement, sustainable practices and healthy eating.
