SWRK 636. Tutorial in Social Work. | Course Catalogue - McGill University
SWRK 642. Tutorial Social Welfare. | Course Catalogue - McGill University
In exceptional circumstances, a tutorial can be negotiated between a student and a faculty member. Before registering for the tutorial, students need to get approval from the faculty member overseeing the tutorial.
Tutorials courses are considered when there is a strong alignment between the student’s interests and the faculty member’s area of expertise. Tutorials can only be taken once and are limited to one per term and count towards your complementary courses.
You may take one or both tutorials (one per term), in which you work independently with a faculty member on a project related to your area of interest.
SWRK 636 is related to clinical practice
SWRK 642 is related to social policy
-Working out the details and expectations of a tutorial and arranging a schedule to meet are decided in consultation with the professor offering the tutorial. Note that each tutorial number can be used only once (either Fall, Winter, OR Summer term).
-Because professors add tutorials to their regular workloads, there is no guarantee that a request for a tutorial will be met. As an alternative, it is sometimes possible to take a course with content related to your proposed tutorial topic and negotiate with the instructor to do an assignment that emphasizes your specific area of interest.
A copy of the Tutorial Form, available from the social work website (https://www.mcgill.ca/socialwork/prospective/msw/formsmanuals) under “MSW Program Forms and Guidelines”, must be filled out, signed, and submitted to the Administrative Office; Graduate Socialwork graduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca at the beginning of the semester. You must also register through MINERVA for the tutorial course.
