McGill eRAP

eRAP (Electronic Research Administration Portal) is McGill's system for electronic submission, review, and tracking of human research ethics applications. Built on InfoEd Global's platform, eRAP brings proposals, reviews, communications, and approvals into one place so investigators can track status and key dates across the study lifecycle.

Use your McGill credentials to access eRAP via the link above. If you cannot log in, submit an access request.

Faculty can authorize students or staff to help prepare submissions. Staff are not preloaded; the PI may need to submit an access request to grant them access.

Students submitting to the FMHS REB: Your supervisor must be listed as the Principal Investigator. You may create the submission, but you will need to add your supervisor and select them as PI in the Access to Edit Application page of the eform.

Who can use eRAP

  • Faculty, graduate students, and postdocs with a McGill login.
  • Staff may be granted access at the PI's request — submit an access request.

When to use eRAP

Submit all of the following in eRAP:

  • New study applications
  • Amendments
  • Continuing reviews (renewals)
  • Termination reports
  • Reportable New Information (RNI) (e.g., unanticipated issues, protocol deviations)

Choosing the amendment type: If the initial ethics application was submitted in Word (pre-eRAP), choose Amendment – Legacy. If it was submitted in eRAP, choose Amendment.

Exceptions: McGill co-investigators on a study already approved at another institution—contact the REB before submitting. External (non-McGill) researchers—contact the REB; do not apply through eRAP.

Before you submit

  • Review the User Guides appropriate to your role (Faculty PI, Student PI, RA, Supervisor, Reviewer).
  • Consult the FAQ for common issues (login, locating records, pop-ups, cache).
  • Confirm team roles and edit access (only the PI and authorized editors can access/submit).

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start using eRAP?

Use eRAP now for all submissions (new studies, amendments, continuing reviews, terminations, RNIs). Legacy Word forms are no longer accepted for new submissions.

Which amendment type should I pick?

If your initial application was submitted in Word (pre-eRAP), select Amendment – Legacy. If it was created in eRAP, select Amendment.

I can't log in. What should I do?

You must be registered in the system. Most faculty, graduate students, and postdocs in high-submission areas are already loaded. Staff accounts are added on request. If you cannot log in, submit an access request or contact erapsupport [at] mcgill.ca (eRAP Support).

I can't find my protocol.

You can access a record only if you are the PI or have been granted edit access. As PI, use Quick Find (study title, record number, or last name) or Locate Records (title, record number, investigator). If you are listed with edit access, use Locate Records.

Where are my pre-eRAP documents?

For studies initiated prior to eRAP, you may see an empty "Initial Submission" shell. This is normal. Go to Master RecordAttachments to find the original application and documents.

Why can't I create a new amendment?

You cannot create a new amendment while another amendment is submitted and awaiting REB decision.

How can I share a record with colleagues who don't have access?

Download from Master RecordAttachments and share the file securely. To add an editor, the PI must submit an access request (note: for student PIs, only the student and their supervisor may have edit access).
