Research Security and Compliance

McGill University is committed to openness in academic research and international collaboration and at the same time is dedicated to ensuring the security of its research and to implementing protections against foreign interference. To ensure these goals, the University established the Research Security and Compliance Office, which provides the necessary support for researchers.

The Office has a mandate to conduct risk assessments in accordance with federally determined laws and protocols. It also has a mandate to oversee compliance within McGill, including the management of Conflict-of-Interest declarations. The Office facilitates understanding and communicates best practices around research and data management, research partnerships, and licensing agreements. Its staff liaises with other units at McGill involved in research security, for example, Information Technology (IT) Services, and Legal Services.
